Porcelain Lamp with Gilt Metal

USD $ 850.00

This elegant Neoclassical table lamp is designed in the esteemed Sèvres style, featuring a classic urn-form porcelain body finished in a signature “rose pompadour” or soft pink ground. The central focus of the lamp is a hand-painted floral reserve (or medallion), showcasing a detailed bouquet of garden flowers—typically including roses, peonies, and bluebells—set within an ivory-white field. This decorative panel is framed by elaborate raised gold gilding in the form of scrolling foliage and delicate lattice patterns, which adds a layer of depth and luxury to the smooth porcelain surface.

The lamp is further embellished with fine gilt metal (ormolu) mounts, including a pair of ornate, foliate-scrolled handles and a stepped, decorative pedestal base. These mounts are characteristic of the Louis XVI or Empire styles, often featuring motifs such as acanthus leaves or eagle-head terminals to enhance the stately silhouette of the urn. While many such lamps were produced as 20th-century Victorian Revival pieces for the high-end decorative market, the quality of the hand-painting and the heavy metal mounting suggest a work of significant craftsmanship designed to bring the traditional opulence of French palace decor into a residential setting.
