This elegant pair of table lamps is a quintessential example of Mid-Century Italian Hollywood Regency design. The lamps feature a striking combination of textures and materials: the base consists of a hand-blown, ribbed Murano glass orb in a soft salmon pink, often infused with gold “aventurine” flecks for a shimmering effect. From the glass base emerges a dramatic “bouquet” of gilded toleware (painted or lacquered metal), fashioned into graceful wheat stalks and leafy branches. These are accented with delicate, hand-formed white porcelain flowers, likely Capodimonte-style, which add a touch of botanical realism to the stylized metalwork. The entire assembly sits atop a solid, square white marble or alabaster plinth, providing a heavy, high-quality foundation.
Lamps of this style were highly fashionable in the 1950s and 60s, imported from Italy to decorate upscale American interiors. Their value is significantly higher as a matched pair, which is increasingly rare in the vintage market. Collectors prize these pieces for their craftsmanship, specifically the “wheat and flower” motif, which symbolizes prosperity and has become a staple of the “Palm Beach” or “Hollywood Regency” aesthetic favored by designers like Dorothy Draper or Coco Chanel.
