Rural Houses – S. Harris (Newman Decor Production)

Artist: S. Harris (Newman Decor Production)
Date: Circa 1930s–1940s
Medium: Watercolor and airbrush on paper
Dimensions: 27 1/2 inches x 33 inches (including frame)

This captivating village scene exhibits a striking Art Deco and American Regionalist aesthetic, defined by smooth, airbrushed gradients and sculptural forms characteristic of mid-century commercial interior decor. Overlapping buildings with steep rooflines and prominent cylindrical chimneys frame the left side. Along the winding dirt road, stylized figures—including two women in classic dresses and a small black dog—add a narrative human element alongside the sinuous, bare trees and low stone wall.
