Victorian Cut Crystal Perfume Bottle with Chased Sterling Silver Cap

USD $ 550.00

Date: Late Victorian to Edwardian Period (c. 1890–1910)
Medium: Cut crystal/lead glass with hallmarked sterling silver collar and hinged cap, original glass stopper
Dimensions: 6 in. Height

This elegant antique vanity perfume or scent bottle features a heavy, globular cut crystal body deeply carved in a classic hobnail and diamond facet pattern. The clear lead glass body refracts light brilliantly across its faceted surface, leading up to a smooth, stepped neck. The bottle is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver collar stamped with English assay marks and topped with a hinged spherical cap decorated with detailed chased floral scrolls and foliate embossing. Opening the hinged silver lid reveals the original internal ground glass stopper intact within the neck. The clear lead crystal body is complemented by descriptions of the silver hues which contain iridescent tarnishing and warm patina along the collar.

Crafted during the turn of the century for formal dressing tables and vanity sets, English sterling silver-mounted scent bottles of this spherical form remain highly desirable among collectors of antique glass and silver. The presence of the original interior glass stopper along with the intact hinged cap mechanism, enhances both its functional and decorative appeal.
